ENERGIZED PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVES ARE IN STEP WITH HARD WORKING MANITOBANS
Spring session revealed an out-of-touch, out-of steam NDP government: McFadyen
The 2010 spring session was a stunning contrast between an NDP government that has run out of steam, and an energized PC Caucus focused on ideas that will strengthen our great province of Manitoba, says Progressive Conservative Leader Hugh McFadyen.
“Our PC Caucus used the spring session to introduce new policies that would keep our families safer, protect vulnerable children, and grow the economy,” said McFadyen. “We also highlighted waste and mismanagement within NDP government, including a $1.75 Billion unnecessary expenditure on the longer west-side BiPole III route.”
The Progressive Conservatives were also successful in getting the NDP to reverse its position on probation breaches. The flip-flop came when the House unanimously supported a motion by PC Justice Critic Kelvin Goertzen that requires all breaches for high risk offenders to be reported to police and all breaches to be publicly reported quarterly. It was the first time in Manitoba history an opposition motion passed.
Other highlights of the 2010 spring session include:
- Forced the NDP to call an immediate public committee with the Children’s Advocate on June 25 to discuss the chaos in the child welfare system
- Voted against self-serving NDP legislation to protect cabinet minister salaries while gutting balanced budget act
- Raised public awareness about welfare dollars flowing to dangerous criminals on the lam
- Highlighted the accidental release of prisoners from Manitoba jails
- Committed to Manitobans that a PC government would make trade a priority by joining the New West Partnership with BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan
- Exposed skyrocketing wait times for addictions treatment
- Ensured public safety was upheld in regards to the ongoing treatment of Vince Li
- Took the NDP to task for its lack of accountability on travel and restaurant expenses
- Ensured all-party unanimity is required in the hiring of the next Chief Electoral Officer
“Our PC Caucus put forward ideas to move this province forward and we’ll continue to work hard on behalf of Manitobans,” said McFadyen.
