We need chopper in the skies before the summer begins
As the NDP government continues to play coy about their commitment to fund a police helicopter, Progressive Conservative Justice Critic Kelvin Goertzen says the NDP Minister of Justice, Andrew Swan, must be clear on the government’s commitment and time-line for the project.
“Gang activity and violence are a year round problem in Winnipeg, but we know it usually escalates when the weather warms,” Goertzen said. “The police helicopter needs to be a tool that is ready to go to work by summer for the protection of police and Manitobans.”
Goertzen says it shouldn’t take months for the funding to be approved. After all, a commitment was made in the Throne Speech back in November and the City of Winnipeg is only waiting on the province to live up to their end of the bargain.
“Unfortunately it looks like Greg Selinger used the helicopter as eye-candy in his first Throne Speech before he conducted any real discussion with the city, or gave much thought, about its funding,” Goertzen said.
